Bike Trip (by Bill Ogilvie)

HI all,

We are taking a day off from riding today, Saturday, June 14, 2008. The ride started a day late due to many technical difficulties with the support vehicle and Lynette’s bicycle. We got the motor home fixed up the way mom wants it and had to wait to get the parts for the bicycle till Tuesday morning. Once the bicycle was repaired Lynette took it for a test ride and wound up dumping it three houses down the road. This delayed us till 1:00 PM Tuesday.

The first day ride was cold but a strong west wind pushed us up Provo Canyon. Heber was our first planned stop and we beat the storm by just minutes. More technical difficulties with the motor home made the stay interesting even if it rained the whole time we were there.

Day 2, We woke to rain on Wednesday and waited till 12:00 before starting for Strawberry Reservoir. This was our first long uphill ride. The rain let up as we left Heber and we had partly cloudy skies with strong west winds and cool temperatures. I didn’t have much left when we made the summit. More technical difficulties, a water leak in the coach.

Day 3, Cool, Sunny and strong winds from the west, most of the days ride from Strawberry to Starvation Reservoir is downhill, lots of coasting. Payback for all the work to get to the summit. There will be more up hills and down hills to come. A nice evening at starvation with most of the technical difficulties solved.

Day 4, Warm, Sunny, and Calm, We planned to stop just East of Roosevelt Ut. But, the camping in Vernal looked much better. We added 28 miles to the ride and finished the day in Vernal. All the technical problems with the motor home coach seem to be under control now so we are taking a break before the long uphill climb to the top of the Rockies. The grand kids are playing in the pool at the camp ground and we are enjoying the calm warm weather.

We will keep you up to date as we get internet connections.
